SILKSCREENING IS FOR SUMMERS

Ohio is for lovers as to Silkscreening is for summers.

Today was the day for Skate Like A Girl San Francisco to get off of our behinds and get some important stuff done...like make some silkscreens for some SLAG shirts!

We Emailed Thuy last night to find out if it was o.k. if we utilized her Thriving house. She replied by morning today, or maybe even by last night...and said she'd be there throughout the day and that we were pretty much welcome to go there.

Erica and I planned to start the day off early, and get to the Thrive house as fast as possible. What time we arrived has kind of drifted from my memory, but maybe around 9ish? Maybe 10ish? We rode our bikes there, and Sean welcomed us at the door.
A lil fatigued and a bit sweaty, we made our way in and we were quickly greeted by Thuy. After our "hello's" we went down stairs to start on some business.

Took me a while to figure out those darn APPLE computers (being the windows gal that seem to be), and quickly learned..well, not really all that quickly..learned..that the printer wasn't the printer that the Skoach handbook I was trying to print on was the printer that I needed. Luckily, this guy..who's name I dont remember, came in and performed some magic on my personal laptop and the apple computers at the thrive house...

I should go...type more later..

KAISER'S NOT THE ONLY THING THAT THRIVES

Yesterday, Erica, Max and I were invited to an exclusive BBQ at the Thrive house cause we're basically super duper awesome like that.

This time around, I wanted to make sure we took some great pics to share with ya'lls.

We were a bit late getting to the house cause I had Erica take my online traffic school test for me which took longer than we expected. After racking our brains, were off on our bikes 45 minutes after the invite time. Luckily the party didn't start till we got there (only cause we were the party). We were greeted by a tall male figure who's name was so out of the ordinary that I literally forgot it 5 seconds after he told me.

Anyway, 20 minutes later and Thuy arrives with some food. Thuy offered me a tour of the house and while Sean, with his I Heart San Francisco Skate Club shirt, offered me a glass of lemonade..or more like handed it over. So yeah..I was like..um ok..and went with it. Cool house btw. I'd type out all about the house, but I feel lazy and I think I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves. THanks.

A cool stove , oddly placed.

The Thrive House

Met with Thuy and Shawn at the Thrive House. The Thrive house partners with organizations serving urban youth. Thuy and Shawn run San Francisco Skate Club, an organization focused on creating a positive and safe environment for kids to skate. They run some of their programs out of the Thrive house, as well as managing the schedule there. Thuy offered us (SLAG SF) an opportunity to use the space for meetings and such. They are both super supportive and offered some great tips... everything from budgeting to the best place in SF to get stickers made. We look forward to partnering with them in the future.

CORY'S GALS

Went to help Cory teach girls how to skate at an after school program that he runs. After biking there, I hit the little girls room then we were off meeting the ladies.

They showed us their lil stretch routine and we answered questions in a circle and tried to not get blown over by the wind.

One of the girls learned how to do a rock n roll fakie on a small kicker ramp.

We also had a "skate switch" racing contest. The winner received a t-shirt. Two girls tied, and went into a sudden death situation, but then it was kind of iffy the way they made it to the finish line, so we had them "rock paper scissors" for the win...oh yeah..I mean Rochambeau.

SKATEDATE 4.11.09

SLAG Goes to Mexico City recap

Nancy Chang and I (Erica Harris) went to Mexico City to team up with Chica Rider and give skate clinics. Paco and Paloma who run Chica Rider were the greatest... the greatest tour guides ever and great people overall. We were honored to be their guests and to forge the friendship. We were also joined by Micaela, from Poseiden, who helped with the clinics and visioning of future partnerships. The skate scene in Mexico is going off.We ate lots of street food, tortas, tacos, smoothies, and of course fresh fruit. The mangos are to die for, you can peel and eat them like a juicy banana. I ate as many as my system could handle, which was a lot. We also ate tongue and grasshoppers.... more on that in another blog... the link is below
There are so many girls skating in Mexico city. The level of enthusiasm is amazing. Everyone is charging and not afraid to try new tricks. They pick things up so fast and are uninhibited. We have a lot to learn from the Mexican skaters. We were stoked to hang out with the girls, teach clinics, and also skate with Mayra Gallegos and Renata Ruiz.
Charging!
Quick breather after hours of skating... I didn't have much left I could teach so I resorted to freestyle.
Clinic: This is only a fraction of the girls. Mexico has the most colorful parks I've seen.
Hairless Aztec dog (zoloitzcuitle). Its skin is a little oily and bumpy. These are a hit but I wasn't really into cuddling with it.
Random bowl. This thing wore me out.
Near the central plaza.

We hope to return to Mexico City, and see some girls from Chica Rider in San Francisco soon!
